End-to-end water treatment package unveiled

With pollution and sewage issues mounting across the UK, an end-to-end treatment package has been launched to help water companies in their ongoing infrastructure upgrades. The industry-first solution from Wilo comes as the eighth Asset Management Period (AMP8) for water companies in England and Wales accelerates into the second year of its five-year cycle (2025-2030).
Wilo has integrated the capabilities of FSM Frankenberger, a specialist in wastewater treatment technologies, which is strengthened by the expertise of Simon Light and Ian Hayward, who collectively bring over six decades of experience in water treatment and engineering.
FSM’s advanced screening technology completes Wilo’s end-to-end water management offering from inlet screening and grit removal through to final discharge and pumping systems.
The approach is designed to streamline engineering and procurement processes while reducing installation complexity and operational costs, providing greater efficiency for water companies.
Simon Light said: “Screening is crucial in protecting equipment and preventing blockages that could halt the entire treatment process. Without effective screening, components are exposed to unnecessary wear, leading to increased maintenance costs and potential environmental breaches. This is a risk that decision-makers simply can’t afford to take.
“Our combined expertise allows us to offer tailored, robust solutions that meet the evolving needs of the sector. We’re looking forward to helping firms navigate the challenges of compliance, capacity and sustainability brought by AMP8 and future AMPs.”
Wilo is now believed to be the only provider offering a fully integrated water treatment solution under one roof. This position supports utilities companies in meeting ESG goals, reducing river pollution and managing increased flows driven by population growth and urbanisation.
With AMP8 requiring £104 billion in investment and the recruitment of 50,000 new operatives by 2030, water companies face the task of carrying out essential infrastructure upgrades while maintaining affordability for customers.
These include storm overflow reduction, enhanced sludge treatment and improved discharge quality.
Simon Oakes, Sales Director – Water Management & Industry at Wilo UK, said: “It’s no secret that water companies are under pressure to meet the expectations of AMP8 and beyond. Leveraging third-party expertise and assistance will be invaluable for those looking to do so effectively.
“We’re proud to be leading the way with a truly integrated water treatment solution that simplifies the various challenges facing the sector and supports in delivering upgrades efficiently and sustainably.”
