Pump repair saves food processor six-figure sum

When a potato processing plant faced a lengthy delay in replacing a failed pump at its facility, it turned to HAYLEY DEXIS. The repair carried out by HAYLEY 247 DEXIS not only cost considerably less than the replacement option, but it also saved the processor a substantial amount in avoided downtime, thanks to the project’s quick turnaround.

A potato processing facility in Norfolk had a Varisco pump that had failed. The failure had put a stop to production on the line, and the OEM had quoted the on-site maintenance team a 12-week lead time. To explore alternative options, a call was made to the HAYLEY DEXIS branch in Norwich for assistance.

It soon became clear that a like-for-like new unit would only be available with a lengthy delay due to delivery timescales. Plus the quoted cost was £5370. The team at HAYLEY DEXIS in Norwich quickly arranged for the failed pump to be collected from the site and taken to the HAYLEY 247 DEXIS engineering centre, where a repair could be carried out. The asset was then stripped and inspected, with a report generated and shared with the customer.

The cost of the repair by HAYLEY 247 DEXIS was around 50% of the price quoted for a new pump, making it the economical choice for the customer.

In addition, thanks to the round-the-clock service provided by HAYLEY 247 DEXIS, the potato processing facility had a working, reliable pump asset returned to them just over twenty-four hours after the breakdown had been initially reported to the HAYLEY DEXIS team in Norwich. It is estimated that the significantly reduced downtime experienced prevented £420,000 of lost income that would have resulted from the originally quoted 12-week lead time.
