Collaborative project solves flooding issues for luxury automotive facility in Modena

Pump solutions specialist Caprari, and Project Design S.r.l., a technical design firm specialising in various disciplines including civil, structural, and energy engineering, have launched an ambitious stormwater management project at an industrial facility operating in the luxury automotive sector in Modena.

The plant was subject to issues caused by heavy rainfall. In particular, the heavy rainfall caused flooding in certain critical areas of the production lines, with serious repercussions on business operations. The existing flood prevention system proved to be ineffective: the pumps frequently shut down, and there was no reliable automatic start-up system, forcing staff to carry out frequent manual interventions.

The solution

Thanks to precise and professional technical consulting, a customised system was designed, capable of effectively preventing flooding and ensuring operational continuity even under adverse weather conditions.

The project included the construction of recessed wells. Strategically positioned, they are the first to collect rainwater. In case of emergency, when the water level reaches a predetermined threshold, a float switch automatically activates the KCW series submersible pumps, which quickly drain the premises.

The new installation also ensures the safe activation of the pumps when needed, eliminating the risks of failure and the inefficiencies of the old system.

To ensure robustness and service continuity, the installed pumps guarantee continuous and reliable operation, minimising the need for maintenance and corrective interventions.

The new system has permanently resolved the flooding issues, enhancing workplace safety and improving the efficiency of the production lines.

The choice of Caprari KCW series submersible pumps proved successful due to their reliability, water-handling capacity, and ease of integration with the automatic control system.

Eng. Bagli of Exa Engineering for Architecture, who worked with Project Design and was involved in the project from the start alongside Caprari technicians, said: “ The technical support we received from Caprari during the preliminary phase allowed us to thoroughly analyse the critical issues of the existing system and design a truly tailor-made solution, which led to tangible results.

“The KCW pumps proved to be robust and ready to respond effectively even in the most critical situations.”
