Intelligent high-pressure wash system for optimised cleaning

Armstrong Industrial’s Fluid Division has recently launched a high-pressure wash system, purpose-built for precision cleaning in demanding industrial applications.

Engineered for a wide range of industrial applications, the solution is well-suited for sectors such as mining, power generation, cement, manufacturing, petrochemicals, ports, and bulk materials handling. It is powered by Armstrong Envelope Intelligence, combining high-pressure cleaning performance with intelligent controls to help operators improve asset reliability, reduce energy consumption and lower maintenance costs.

According to Divyanshu Shrivastava, Global Product Manager for Industrial Fluids at Armstrong Industrial, the technology can deliver energy savings of 20-30%, reduce carbon emissions by a similar margin and extend component life by between 20% and 40%.

“Industrial customers today are looking for complete engineered solutions that improve reliability and energy efficiency,” said Divyanshu. “Our High-Pressure Wash System has been developed to provide heavy-duty cleaning performance while integrating automation and intelligent control capabilities that help customers optimise their operations.”

Diverse industrial applications

Its versatility allows it to be used for cleaning functions as diverse as cooling coils, air preheaters, electrostatic precipitators, boilers and solar panels. Divyanshu noted that cleaning should no longer be viewed simply as a maintenance requirement.

 “Cleaning should be viewed as part of an integrated plant optimisation strategy. Restoring equipment to its design condition improves thermal performance, reduces energy losses and enhances overall plant reliability. When critical assets are kept clean, operators are able to maintain design performance, improve energy efficiency and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime,” he said.

He highlighted that Armstrong Envelope Intelligence technology continuously adjusts pressure and flow to match the cleaning requirement, ensuring that energy and water are used efficiently.

“Variable-speed control automatically adapts system performance to changing operating conditions, while soft start and stop functionality reduces power surges and water waste,” he explained. “An automatic stop feature further minimises unnecessary runtime during idle periods.”

Predictive maintenance

The intelligent control platform also provides real-time monitoring of pressure and flow, integrated alarms and diagnostics, and predictive maintenance capabilities based on runtime and load history. This helps operators to identify potential issues before they develop into failures, so they can improve their maintenance planning and their equipment availability.

“Beyond operational benefits, the technology contributes significantly to sustainability goals,” emphasised Divyanshu Shrivastava. “By restoring equipment to optimal operating condition, the solution helps reduce the energy losses associated with fouled heat-transfer surfaces, restricted airflow and inefficient process operation.”

Optimised wash cycles also reduce water consumption, while longer equipment life means fewer replacement components and less waste over time. Reliability is enhanced by reduced mechanical stress on the crankshaft, crosshead and seals – as well as lower cavitation and pressure spikes.

Low and high flow

The High-Pressure Wash System is available in both low-flow and high-flow configurations to suit different cleaning requirements. The low-flow variant delivers flow rates of 10 to 70 litres per minute, while the high-flow variant delivers 70 to 120 litres per minute. Both configurations operate at pressures ranging from 300 bar to more than 1,000 bar, providing the flexibility required for everything from routine maintenance cleaning to large-scale industrial washdown applications.
