New generation of easy maintenance macerator
With a new generation of macerators, SEEPEX is updating its shredding technology used to shred solids and fibrous materials in progressive cavity pump applications, helping to prevent pipeline blockages and protect downstream system components.
The Easy Maintenance Macerator from SEEPEX is designed to support simplified servicing, consistent cutting performance, and improved system availability.

Cotton swabs and wet wipes in wastewater, or bones, shells, pits, and fibres in food production, often remain in liquid, pumpable suspensions. These materials can disrupt downstream processes if not adequately treated. The Easy Maintenance Macerator homogenises sludge through a shredding process that supports smooth transport through the pump, reducing the risk of operational interruptions across the plant.
Technical features
The new macerator incorporates flow-optimised shear plate geometry, replaceable knives made from wear-resistant tool steel, and a reversible shear plate. Its design allows access to the cutting unit for maintenance and for removing foreign objects without lifting equipment. The macerator is rated for throughput of up to 100m³/h and is available with motor ratings of 1.5kW (standard), 2.2 and 3kW. Fine shredding of solids and fibres reduces the likelihood of entanglements, supporting reliable long-term pump operation. The macerator is intended to help extend the service life of connected equipment such as pumps, centrifuges, and screw presses.
Quick access and predictive maintenance
The Easy Maintenance Macerator is designed for straightforward servicing. A foldable cutting unit enables access from above, while the shear plate can be reached and replaced quickly. Blade adjustment is possible from the outside. Cleaning and removal of foreign objects can be up to 80% faster. An optional reverse operation allows the knife rotation direction to be changed during operation, enabling blockages to be cleared without opening the macerator. An integrated debris separator and a dedicated cleaning flap provide additional access to the housing for removing disruptive solids. The reversible shear plate and bidirectional operation are expected to support longer service intervals and reduced spare parts requirements.
Applications in modern waste management
SEEPEX’s progressive cavity pumps and macerators are used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, as well as in agriculture, food and beverage processing, fish processing, paper and pulp production, and sugar refineries. In applications where coarse or fibrous materials must be shredded before pumping, the Easy Maintenance Macerator is intended to support stable operation and simplified maintenance when used on its own or in combination with a SEEPEX progressive cavity pump.
