A new generation of internal gear pumps

A new pump design from Viking Pump, available exclusively from Michael Smith Engineers in the UK, enhances the company’s Universal Seal range – first introduced in 1911– and introduces innovative features that make pumps easier to integrate, maintain, and adapt to changing process requirements.

A key innovation in the new generation range is the ProPort casing, which features a bolt-on port design that allows facilities to adapt the pump to existing piping systems rather than modifying infrastructure to fit the pump. The casing includes mounting pads designed to accommodate multiple flange types and sizes, such as NPT, ANSI, and DIN configurations, and is available in both 90-degree and opposite port arrangements. This design helps simplify installation while offering greater layout flexibility within plant environments.

Another major advancement is the U-Plus bracket, a universal seal chamber that supports a wide range of sealing configurations. Operators can easily switch between packing, component mechanical seals, cartridge seals, behind-the-rotor seals, or Viking Pump’s O-Pro seals, without requiring major pump modifications. This flexibility allows facilities to adapt sealing solutions to meet evolving performance, leakage, or maintenance requirements.

The next-generation pumps are designed to deliver high performance while simplifying maintenance and inventory management. By reducing the number of casing configurations while expanding porting options, the modular design helps streamline manufacturing, shorten lead times, and reduce spare parts complexity.
